What Does Georgia Travel Insurance Cover? Limits & How to Claim

A clear breakdown of the mandatory travel-medical insurance for visitors to Georgia: total cover up to 30,000 GEL, what's included with limits, and how to make a claim. Underwritten by JSC Insurance Company Unison, offered by Georgian Insurance.

Why this insurance is required and who underwrites it

Travel-medical insurance is mandatory for many visitors to Georgia under Government of Georgia Decree №602. The policy is designed to cover unexpected, emergency medical situations that may arise during your stay in the country, so that you are not left facing the full cost of urgent care on your own.

The cover is underwritten by JSC Insurance Company Unison (ID/VAT 404393152) and offered under the Georgian Insurance brand. You can buy it online in minutes, and your official policy PDF is emailed to you straight away. Prices start from €2.5 per day per traveller (about $2.9), with payment by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Throughout this page we explain what the policy covers, the specific limits that apply, and the steps to make a claim. This is general information only, not medical or legal advice — the exact terms, conditions and exclusions are set out in your policy documents.

What's covered and the limits that apply

The total cover limit is 30,000 GEL per traveller. Within that overall limit, individual benefits have their own sub-limits, which are shown below as maximum ("up to") amounts. The policy reimburses eligible emergency costs up to these limits.

Emergency outpatient care — up to 10,000 GEL. Emergency hospitalization / inpatient — up to 20,000 GEL. Emergency inpatient treatment — 500 GEL per day. Intensive care — 500 GEL per day.

Medical evacuation, including after a sports injury — up to 2,000 GEL. Emergency dental care — up to 500 GEL. Repatriation — up to 5,000 GEL.

These figures are maximums, not guaranteed payouts: reimbursement depends on the actual eligible cost of the emergency care you received and is paid up to the relevant sub-limit and the overall 30,000 GEL ceiling.

What the policy does and does not cover

This policy is built for the unexpected. It responds to emergency medical situations that occur during your stay in Georgia — sudden illness or injury that needs urgent attention.

It is not designed for planned or elective treatment. Care you arranged in advance, routine check-ups, or procedures you travelled specifically to receive are not what this emergency cover is for.

Because every policy has conditions and exclusions, always read your policy documents to confirm what applies to your specific situation. We don't promise coverage for anything not listed above, and the exact terms always take precedence over a summary like this one.

How to make a claim

If you need emergency care during your stay, the most important practical step is to keep all of your medical documents and receipts. These records are what allow your eligible costs to be reimbursed.

Submit your claim, together with the supporting documents, to the underwriter — JSC Insurance Company Unison — within the time limit stated in your policy. Don't wait: missing the policy's time limit can affect your claim.

Once your claim and documents are reviewed, eligible costs are reimbursed up to the cover limit. Keep copies of everything you submit for your own records.
